The empty nest😔
Jr died today, July 19, 2023. Today was his first fledge and a car ran him down.
Life as a garage eagle is hard. Weather and cars are daily challenges. Whether they can weather…cars, not.
Jr was precious to Mr and mrs hugejean as their first eggs did not develop and hugejean sibling did not either.
Together, the hugejeans took such good care of their little one. One day, mrs hugejean did not return. Hugejean was left to fend for himself and tiny squeaker, leaving him to go out and get food for them.
Then hugejean met auntie. She would sit at the nest where jr was. She did not feed him, but watched diligently.
Jr was slow to grow and very small.
Every day we would go check out his progress, taking countless pictures. So proud we were… and scared.
The nesting spots are right over the entrance to the parking garage.
One could emphasize the predictable nature of the outcome. That is not the point.
We share the world with many beings. Problem is we as a species have lost sight of that basic fact.
Drivers of cars do not have to treat this garage or any other, as their personal racetrack.
Pigeons do not sue but the inevitable human casualties just might.
A beautiful, important, treasured, and loved little life lost today.
How many more, before.
Jr will be missed from across the pond. It has been an honour watching him grow 🙏🏻🐦❤️ fly high sweet little Jr 🙏🏻
