man leaves his muddy footprints
wherever he treads
and now our earth shudders,
and we live, in dread
what is next for our world
what more damage can be done
is this what our species
considers to be fun
in its rampant need to conquer
and own
man has destroyed his refuge,
his home
what will be left
i ask, bereft
